Medical Social Services

Welcome to the Department of Medical Social Services, LUTH

The Medical Social Services Department was established in 1964 by the late Professors Olikoye Ransome-Kuti and Robert Collis out of the need to provide psychosocial support to patients and their relatives while on admission and in the outpatients clinics.

The Medical Social Services department using available social resources provides a wide range of Services within the Hospital to patients and their caregivers which include:
• Social Assessment
• Counselling
• Education
• Social rehabilitation.
• Repatriation
• Financial assistance (when applicable)
• Handling of admission and discharge problems.
• Home tracing
• Home visit and follow up.
• Psychotherapy
• Transfer and placement of abandoned patients

The Department is located in the Accident and Emergency Building. There are offices on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors. The current Head of Department is Mrs. O.K. Doherty and her office is situated on the 1st floor. The Office on the 2nd floor can be found beside the Corporate Services unit while those on the 3rd floor are situated beside the NHIS office.
